Below are the parameters of a BACH cylinder capable of continuously giving 67 KW at 7500 rpm with a mass of 21.6 Kg, as well as a model of the BACH 3-cylinder engine block, seen on the distribution side. The specific consumption is 0.2 Kg/Kwh. The specific mass is 0.36 Kg/Kw including all elements attached directly to the engine block. For short periods we can obtain 76 KW at 8500 rpm, without significantly reducing the lifespan.
Displacement260cc
Bore83mm
Stroke48mm
Continuous speed67Kw
Continuous power8500 tr/mn
Take-off power76 Kw
Mass per cylinder21.6 Kg
Specific consumption continuous power0.2Kg/Kwh
With the range of BACH motors we have what it takes to meet all the demands of the aircraft of the future in the range of motors from 100 KW up to 800 KW. Depending on the use, a reduction gear may be necessary to drive the mechanics in a manner traditional, or directly an alternator to recharge batteries and/or drive propellers with electric motors. The combination of these high- speed motors with an alternator is interesting for reducing the mass of these electricity generators.
The evolution of specific consumption with power is given by a very different law between a piston engine and a turbine.
The example above shows the Cs of a recent ARRIEL, which consumes 0.34 Kg/KWH of fuel at PMD, but this figure increases to 0.4 at 500 KW which is the power limit on an AS350. On the contrary, the BACH engine goes from 0.22 at PMD to 0.2 at PMC.
