Why is the BACH engine more efficient?

The current version of the BACH engine is the culmination of a long process which began in 2014 with the aggregation of the work of a “discrete” engine manufacturer and a recognized INE. They established specifications which integrated aeronautical specificities from the outset, particularly in terms of performance and safety We also re-studied subsystems and manufacturing processes as they were used at the WSBR and F1 levels. We are also very attentive to developments in materials, Metal Additive Manufacturing, sustainable fuels and ECUs..

What are the technological points of the BACH engine that create the difference in performance ?

The design seeking to optimize the performance / weight / specific consumption / noise level ratio:
  • Based on methods to optimize cylinder filling, exhaust gas evacuation and thermodynamic efficiency while respecting the usual standards in terms of TBO. Via the mathematical and numerical models of our engine manufacturer and a “non-classical” approach taken up long after him by his colleagues in Formula 1
  • Using a single liquid for lubrication and cooling in 2 different circuits and a new type of positive displacement compressor from the work of Bernard CERTAIN: 3AF Ile de France conference on February 14, 2023. video
